Essential tips and facts to help you prepare for your journey to Peru.
Cusco sits at 3,400m (11,150 ft). Take it easy on day one. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals and alcohol, and try coca tea to help acclimatize. Our tours include oxygen support just in case.
Weather can change rapidly. We recommend dressing in layers. Bring a waterproof jacket, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen as the sun is very strong at high altitudes.
The local currency is the Peruvian Sol (PEN). While credit cards are widely accepted in cities, it is essential to carry cash (small bills) for local markets, tips, and small towns. USD is widely accepted in tourist areas.
Do not drink tap water. Stick to bottled or filtered water. Carry hand sanitizer. We highly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical emergencies and high-altitude activities.
Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date. Most Western countries (USA, EU, UK) do not need a visa for stays up to 183 days. Always carry a digital and physical copy of your passport.
Spanish is the official language, but Quechua is widely spoken in the Andes. In restaurants, a 10% tip is customary. For guides and drivers, tipping is voluntary but highly appreciated for excellent service.
Everything you need to know before your trip.
Yes, Cusco is located at 3,400 meters (11,150 ft). We highly recommend arriving at least 2 days before your trek or high-altitude tour to rest, drink plenty of water, and drink coca tea to help your body adjust.
The dry season (May to October) is generally considered the best time for trekking and visiting Machu Picchu, with sunny days and clear skies. The rainy season (November to April) offers greener landscapes and fewer crowds.
It depends on the specific tour. For tours like Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu, entrance fees are included. For others like ATV tours or City Tours, the entrance ticket (Boleto Turístico) is usually not included. Please read the "Included" section for each tour.
